MOOREFIELD – Mapleton council held its last in-person council meeting for the foreseeable future on Oct. 13, as COVID-19 cases continue to climb in the province.

The meeting, held at the Maryborough Community Centre, included numerous public meetings and took about 90 minutes to complete.

Councillor Michael Martin had put forward a notice of motion to have council meetings revert to a virtual format until council deems appropriate.

However, before that notice could be put forward, Mayor Gregg Davidson said “we will not be going with the notice of motion,” because it had already been decided the next meeting would not be in person.

“Our next meeting will be done virtually on Zoom,” Davidson said.

“So on Oct. 27 we'll be back to Zoom meetings."

The mayor added that he spoke to Dr. Nicola Mercer, Medical Officer of Health with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, "and she advised that having the meetings by Zoom is her preference.”

Therefore all meetings will take place via Zoom until further notice, due to the changing conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, Davidson said.
