MAPLETON– The Mapleton Sunflower Festival was held at the Ottens farm near Moorefield on Aug. 16.

It included food, wandering through the sunflowers, and a 2, 5 and 10k walk/run, all in support of the Palmerston and District Hospital.

Officials say 341 runners participated in the morning run and throughout the day another 500 people came through the festival.

Together they raised $9,000 to purchase a new ice machine for the hospital.

“When our loved ones are in the hospital and we are helpless it is a nice thing to be able to bring them ice water,“ said festival organizer Leona Ottens.
