PALMERSTON –  The Town of Minto is receiving $4,462,125 through the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure’s Housing Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF).

The funding, initially announced last month, will support the reconstruction of Wellington Road 123 (Main Street West) in Palmerston, an infrastructure project that officials say will enable the creation of 1,447 new homes in the community.

“We are extremely grateful for this investment from the Province of Ontario and the advocacy of (Perth-Wellington) MPP Matthew Rae,” Mayor Dave Turton stated in a press release.

“This funding will go a long way in enabling much-needed housing growth in Palmerston. By investing in essential water and road infrastructure, the province is helping us create the conditions that will allow families to find a place to call home here in Minto.”

The town has been working to prepare for future housing growth across its communities, with Palmerston identified as a key area for expansion.

The reconstruction of Main Street West will improve servicing capacity but also revitalize a main corridor in Palmerston, officials stated.

“Partnerships like this are vital for small, rural municipalities,” said Turton. “With this provincial support, Minto is better positioned to meet the needs of current and future residents while continuing to grow as a welcoming, vibrant community.”
