MINTO – The Town of Minto has a busy slate of activities lined up for Culture Days, celebrated across Ontario from Sept. 24 to Oct. 24.

Sponsored by the Town of Minto Cultural Roundtable, all local events are free, but pre-registration is required for most.

Registration is through Eventbrite or by visiting the town’s Culture Days Facebook page.

The event kicks off on Sept. 24 with Apples and Astronomy at the Palmerston-area home (6362 Third Line) of Dave and Jean Anderson. The come-and-go style evening runs from 7 to 10pm and will feature orchard tours, a campfire and a chance to see the stars through a high-quality telescope.

All Aboard Palmerston’s Tiny Trains and Treats parade runs the following day, Sept. 25, beginning at 9am at the Lions Heritage Park gates.

On Sept. 26, local performer Jaunita Wilkins will give a live musical show at the Clifford Rotary Pavilion from 1 to 3pm.

On Oct. 1, 8, 15 and 22 the Grey Wellington Theatre Guild urges area residents to “bring their dramatic flair” to the Harriston Town Hall Theatre for youth games from 5:30 to 6:45pm and adult improv from 7:30 to 9pm. Everyone is welcome to participate. Throughout Culture Days, drama buffs can check out the guild’s comedic Zoom play on the GWTG YouTube channel.

On Oct. 2 a celebration of Filipino culture will be held at the Norgan Theatre from 2 to 4pm. Attendees will enjoy food and a chance to learn about Filipino culture.

On Oct. 16 a Music in the Park event will be held at the Harriston Community Centre Pavilion, featuring performances by 12th Line, Sara Fargo and Gloria August Nankunda. The show will run from 3 to 6pm.

Harriston Superior Monuments' fifth annual Headstone Hunt runs throughout Culture Days, culminating on Oct. 24 with a celebration of the 76th anniversary of the end of the Second World War from 10am to 2pm at the Harriston Community Centre.

Local events also include craft, cooking and story sessions at various venues.
