The provincial government will contribute nearly $1.3 million toward the reconstruction of Jane and Inkerman Streets in Palmerston.

Minto treasurer Gordon Duff reported at the Feb. 16 council meeting the town will receive up to 80 per cent funding of the $1.6-million project through the application-based component of the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund.

The project includes replacing aging water pipes and stormwater sewers and associated roadwork.

The town submitted an expression of interest in the funding program on Sept. 8, 2015 and was invited to submit a full application on Dec. 8.

On Feb. 5, the town was advised the province approved the project for costs as submitted.

“It was a really quick turnaround and a successful result,” said Duff.
