MINTO - The Town of Minto and Minto’s Cultural Roundtable are seeking members of the community interested in sharing their diverse voices to volunteer on the new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee.

On Dec. 20, the roundtable took the first steps towards the creation of the sub-committee and Minto council supported and approved the terms of reference of the new DEI committee.

The roundtable is encouraging interested community members to apply to volunteer on the DEI committee by noon on Jan. 30.

Representation from, but not limited to, the following groups is sought: Indigenous peoples, LGBTQ2S+, newcomers, new Canadians, persons living in poverty, persons with disabilities, racialized people, people of diverse ethnic or cultural origin, seniors, women, youth, and three to five community members “working in allyship.”

The DEI sub-committee will work with the Town of Minto on all matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion “to ensure Minto lives up to its commitment  to be a welcoming and inclusive rural community,” states a Jan. 10 press release.

Prospective DEI committee members can apply at: town.minto.on.ca

For information contact director of economic and community development, Belinda Wick-Graham, at belinda@town.minto.on.ca or call 519-338-2511 ext. 241.
