MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Curling Club, established in 1880, held its annual Masters’/Seniors’ bonspiel on March 1.

The six teams that competed in each division for the championships were from Allison, Elmira, Fergus, Arthur, Harriston and Mount Forest.

The competitions were decided based on two eight-end games and were very close ending with ties in both the under-60 and over-60 age divisions.

For the over-60 Master’s Division, following tied games but winning through retrogression was the Doug Adams team from Elmira, skipped by Ken Gilbert, with vice Brian Morris, second Scott McGregor and lead Lance Crawford.

Runners up were the Mackenzie team from Mount Forest, skipped by Steve Rathwell, with vice Howie Pruden, second Don Foster and lead Kim MacKenzie.

For the under-60 Senior’s Division, following tied games, two Mount Forest teams both wound up on the trophy.

The Tilker team was skipped by Dave Tilker, with vice Dave Sockett, second Bill Patton and lead Rae Collins.

The Car team was skipped by Murray Townsend, with vice Al Car, second Doug Rice and lead Phil Meyers.

“Thanks goes out to our great sponsors who support the Mount Forest Club year after year: Teviotdale Truck Stop, Marc Apparel, Independant Auto, Midwestern Co-op-FS, Meat the Butcher, and England Funeral Home,” curling club officials state.

“Thanks goes out to all our volunteers as well as the ice tech team for providing the championship ice throughout the event.”

The roast beef and chicken dinner was provided by Steve Chambers of A+ Catering.

Bonspiel convenor Tom Tangney is retiring after 20 years, officials say.

“Thank you Tom for all the dedication you put into this event year after year,” they stated.
