OTTAWA – Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae was appointed chief government whip of Ontario on April 7.

He will continue his role as parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

“I look forward to serving the people of Ontario and our government in these roles, in addition to my responsibilities as MPP for Perth-Wellington,” Rae stated in a press release.

“I want to thank Premier Ford for the trust he has placed in me."

Rae added, “I look forward to working closely with government house leader Steve Clark and our entire government caucus to ensure our ambitious legislative agenda meets the challenges ahead of us."

At the age of 34, Rae is the second youngest MPP to ever serve in the role of chief government whip, after former minister and MPP John Baird (33) in 2002.

A government whip is responsible for ensuring members of the party attend and vote as party leadership desires.
