MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS 2018: Nomination period opens for municipal elections
The nomination period officially opened on May 1 for municipal elections later this year.
The nomination period ends on July 27 and the election takes place on Oct. 22.
Centre Wellington
In Centre Wellington, nominations will be accepted for mayor and six ward councillor positions. Nominations for Wellington County wards 4, 5 and 6 will also be accepted.
Incumbent mayor Kelly Linton, who plans to again run for mayor, was the only person to file a nomination by the end of day on May 1.
Erin
In Erin, nominations will be accepted for mayor and four council positions. Nominations for Wellington County ward 9 will also be accepted.
Nominations filed so far are Allan Alls (incumbent) for mayor; and Rob Smith (incumbent) for councillor.
Guelph-Eramosa
In Guelph-Eramosa, nominations will be accepted for mayor and four ward councillors. Nominations for Wellington County wards 7 and 8 will also be accepted.
Nominations filed so far are:
- Chris White (incumbent) for mayor;
- Corey Woods (incumbent) for ward 2;
- Louise Marshall (incumbent) for ward 3; and
- Mark Bouwmeester (incumbent) for ward 4.
Mapleton
In Mapleton, nominations will be accepted for mayor and four councillors. Nominations for Wellington County ward 2 will also be accepted.
Mayoral candidate Neil Driscoll (incumbent) was the only one to file in Mapleton on May 1.
Minto
In Minto, nominations will be accepted for mayor, deputy mayor and five councillors. Nominations for Wellington County ward 1 will also be accepted.
Nominations filed so far include George Bridge (incumbent) and Terry Fisk for mayor.
Puslinch
In Puslinch, nominations will be accepted for mayor and five council positions. Nominations for Wellington County ward 7 will also be accepted.
Nominations filed so far include:
- Dennis Lever (incumbent) for mayor;
- Ken Roth (incumbent) for councillor; and
- John Sepulis (incumbent) for councillor.
Wellington North
In Wellington North, nominations will be accepted for mayor and four ward council positions. Nominations for Wellington County wards 3, 4, 5 and 6 will also be accepted.
Nominations filed so far include:
- Andy Lennox (incumbent) for mayor;
- Lisa Hern (incumbent) for ward 3 councillor; and
- Gary Williamson (incumbent) for ward 3 county councillor.
School boards
Wellington Catholic District School Board (English Catholic) has three voting regions and six trustee seats.
Residents of Erin, Guelph-Eramosa and Puslinch (wards 2 and 4) will elect one person and residents of Wellington North, Minto, Mapleton and Centre Wellington (wards 1, 3 and 5) will elect one person.
The only nomination filed so far is Andrew Finoro (wards 1, 3 and 5);
Upper Grand District School Board (English Public) has eight voting regions and 10 trustee seats.
Residents in Wellington North, Minto and Mapleton will elect one trustee; residents in Centre Wellington will elect one trustee; residents in Erin, East Garafraxa and Guelph-Eramosa will elect one trustee; and residents of Puslinch will elect one trustee.
There were no nomination filed as of May 1.
Conseil Scolaire Viamonde (French Public) has 12 voting regions and 12 trustee seats. Residents of Wellington (along with residents of Waterloo, Middlesex, Perth and Huron) will elect one trustee.

Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique Centre-Sud (French Catholic) has 12 voting regions and 12 trustee seats. Residents of Wellington County (along with residents of Dufferin and Peel) will elect one trustee.
