GUELPH – A man has been charged with second-degree murder after a Guelph man was found dead in his apartment last week.

On Nov. 5 Guelph Police officers attended an address on Woolwich Street near Speedvale Avenue to check the wellbeing of a tenant. A 51-year-old man was found unresponsive and pronounced deceased on scene by paramedics.

“Following a thorough investigation, which included a post-mortem examination, the death was ruled a homicide,” police stated in a press release.

A 25-year-old man of no fixed address, who was already in custody on unrelated matters, has been charged with second-degree murder. He was to appear in bail court.

“There is no ongoing threat to public safety,” police stated.

Officials say they believe the victim died on or about Oct. 21. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Guelph Police Service Major Crime Unit at mcu@guelphpolice.ca, leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave an anonymous tip at csgw.tips.
