Muslim Society of Guelph pledges $25,000 gift to HOPE House Capital Campaign
GUELPH – Local poverty relief charity, HOPE House, has announced a $25,000 donation from The Muslim Society of Guelph for its Sustain HOPE Capital Campaign.
“We have appreciated the support of many members of the Muslim community as volunteers, sponsors and donors of food, clothing and money over the years. This incredibly generous gift is a significant boost to our campaign, and we are grateful to our friends at The Muslim Society for making poverty relief services and programs a priority,” said HOPE House executive director Jaya James.
The donation marks the start of the holy month of Ramadan on April 13. For Muslims, Ramadan is a time of deep contemplation of faith, increased charity and generosity. Many of the Society’s 5,000+ members entrust their charitable gifts to the Society for distribution to worthwhile causes.
“Within our community we know there is a huge need for poverty relief programs. HOPE House is well run, well-respected and a grassroots community-led organization where we know exactly where the money is going and how our funds will be used,” said Muslim Society of Guelph spokesperson Sara Sayyed.
“Everyone can be in a situation where they are dealing with poverty or facing difficult times. Our goal is to reach anyone in our community who needs help,” she added.
HOPE House runs innovative food, clothing and support programs that help people move towards an independent future with hope and dignity.
Demand for their services remains at an all-time high as the community recovers from COVID-19.
In April 2020, HOPE House completed the purchase of its downtown building - a historic stone church - to ensure its support and services have a place to call home for many years to come.
The funds raised in the Sustain HOPE Capital Campaign will go towards paying off and renovating the building, as well as create a reserve fund for future upgrades.
