WELLINGTON COUNTY – The union representing Wellington Catholic District School Board educators will escalate job action on Feb. 11.

“This is another way to demonstrate how serious we are about standing up for what is right,” stated Liz Stuart, president of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA), in a Feb. 5 press release.

Starting Tuesday, OECTA members will stick to scheduled teaching/supervision duties and won’t accept additional tasks or assignments.

They will, however, still participate in extra-curricular activities and scheduled parent-teacher interviews.

“Our students are our priority,” Stuart said.

“We will continue to do what we can to advocate for our students, while trying to minimize the disruption to their day-to-day lives. While all job action is difficult for everyone involved, Catholic teachers sincerely believe this short-term inconvenience is necessary to voice our concerns and maintain our world class publicly-funded education system.”

The new job action is in addition to action started on Jan. 13, which includes:

- providing limited report card information;

- not entering diagnostic testing data;

- not completing Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO)-related activities; and

- not attending or participating in Ministry of Education initiatives.

No further strikes have been announced.
