MOUNT FOREST - An exhibit showcasing some of the most interesting women in local history is on display at the Mount Forest Museum and Archives.

On Her Shoulders: Unique Women in the History of Mount Forest showcases 15 women from different backgrounds and different decades through the history of Mount Forest.

Beginning with Dr. Helen (Reynolds) Ryan who was one of the first female physicians in Canada and crossing the decades to Anita Stewart, the late pioneer of Canadian cuisine who was the inspiration for the Food Day Canada Act, the exhibit provides perspective on women with a diverse range of interests and impacts.

Anita Stewart, the late pioneer of Canadian cuisine who was the inspiration for the Food Day Canada Act, is part of the exhibit that provides perspective on women with a diverse range of interests and impacts.

“Each woman’s inspiring story is told through photographs, artifacts and the written word,” said Kate Rowely, volunteer managing director for the museum and archives.

“Each life lived is unique but the 15 biographies are united by their time spent in Mount Forest and they were all lives of interest, contribution and passion,” adds Rowley

The exhibit is open to the public on Wednesdays between 1 and 5pm. Call 519-323-4755 or email archive@mfheritage.ca to make special arrangements for small groups or private viewings.
