MOUNT FOREST – The Township of Wellington North is inviting residents to a public open house to explore the proposed plans for the new playground at Lion Merv Weber Playground in Mount Forest.

The open house will take place on June 2 from 6 to 8pm in the meeting room at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex (850 Princess St., Mount Forest).

On April 22, Wellington North council awarded the tender for the Lion Merv Weber Playground project to Park N Water Ltd. for $149,651, including HST.

This project was included in the 2025 budget, at a cost of $160,000.

The open house will provide an opportunity for community members to meet with the playground design specialist to learn more about the proposed plans, ask questions and share feedback.

Input gathered during the open house will help shape a space the community can enjoy, township officials say.

The new playground design will cater to preschool (two to five years), elementary (five to  12) and young adults (13+) with sensory and accessible features, and exceeds provincial AODA and CSA 2614-20 standards, ensuring accessibility for all users, they add.

The new playground is expected to be completed by September 2025.

Township officials encourage all residents to attend.
