ERIN - A lack of volunteers has forced the Optimist Club of Erin to take a break from operating its food booth at the Erin Fall Fair.

President Erik Mathisen said club members made the difficult decision that they did not have enough volunteers for a successful booth.

“The amount of time needed to simply set up the venue plus have sufficient volunteers available to cook and serve the food is out of reach in 2019,” he said.

“We are optimistic that this will be a one-time hiccup and we will be back for the 2020 fair,” he said.

The club’s next event is the Terry Fox Run on Sept. 15, which it has been supporting since 1984, with volunteers helping with registration, checkpoints and the barbecue lunch.

The club will hold a welcoming event in the fall to recruit new members.
