PALMERSTON – Al and Connie Walter hosted the 17th annual Palmerston co-ed broomball tournament at the Palmerston arena from March 6 through 9.

A total of 25 teams participated in the U9 , U12, U14 and U16 categories.

“Our tournament allows new players to play  that aren’t registered to broomball this year which gives them a chance to try the sport out.” Al and Connie stated in an email to Advertiser.

Teams and spectators came from Blyth, Seaforth, Mildmay and the Owen Sound area, as well as Palmerston.

For Al and Connie, the highlight “was watching the U9s  play –  especially the three-year-olds that had really never played before.

The results  are as follows:

  • U9  was won by Keady  Croc’s 2-0 over Mildmay Farmers;
  • U12 was won by Mildmay 2-0 over the Keady Croc’s;
  • U14 was won by Blyth Green  2-0 over Seaforth Hurricanes; and
  • U16 was won by Blyth Tropical Storm 3-1  over Broomshakalaka (Palmerston-area team).

The majority ofthe games were very close.

Organizers are offering thanks to the timekeepers  who donated their time, the people who helped with the silent auction and all those who gave item to it, everyone who helped with the kitchen and the referees, which included some junior referees, too.

“A big thank you has to go out to the Palmerston executive which were there all the time and they did an awesome job in making everything run smoothly,” Al and Connie stated.

All the proceeds go back to Palmerston Junior Broomball and hopefully will help with  next season.
