Plant and bake sale big success
President Bill Cheeseman and volunteers of the Clifford and District Horticultural Society hosted a spring plant and bake sale at John Hobelman Memorial Park.
Sales were brisk when the gate opened at 7pm. The tables were laden with potted plants of all description - sedum, violets, brown eyed susans, soloman seal, lupins, shasta daisies, pink lilacs, dahliahs, yarrow, spices, primrose, yellow runner, silver mountain, creeping flox, shrubs, trees, and a crowd pleaser the button bush. Most items were priced at $1 and $2 with a few at $5.
Gina Beggs-Mineault was so excited to bring her dad Billy Beggs along to find great plants that they arrived a half hour early for the sale.
Sherry Bradley of Harriston and Jim Measures of Clifford were the first to find the treats that Doris Jaunzemis and Barbara Harris had laid out on the bake table.
By 8:30pm, the sales, shoppers, and sunlight dwindled. The baking was sold out and there weren’t too many plants to take back home.
