Plants, planters vandalized in Fergus and Belwood
CENTRE WELLINGTON – The township has seen a rise in vandalism of planters ion Fergus and Belwood.
Plants and flowers that have been potted and placed in the downtowns and along bridges in Fergus and Belwood have been pulled out, and thrown off the bridges, or plants have been removed from planters altogether, leaving staff struggling to replace and repair the plants in our community.
“The township takes great pride in beautifying our downtowns,” said Mayor Shawn Watters.
“To see that people are being reckless and destroying the planters and plants themselves is frustrating, to say the least.”
Watters continued, “The time, resources and commitment that our staff puts into creating these planters, to have them damaged is concerning. We want to continue our contributions of beautifying our downtowns and hope we can work together to stop this vandalism from happening in our beautiful community.”
Township officials couldn’t say how many planters have been damaged, only that the vandalism has gone on over several weeks.
