CENTRE WELLINGTON – Local police are looking for the public's help to identify those responsible for two recent thefts in the township.

Wellington County OPP officials issued press releases this week about one theft in Fergus and another in Elora.

Fergus incident

On Jan. 17 at about 3:30pm "unknown persons acquired the wallet of a shopper at St. David Street North business," police stated in a Jan. 24 press release.

Less than an hour later, at about 4:20pm, "unknown persons used payment cards from the wallet at a retailer in Guelph," police added.

The OPP did not say where the alleged theft occurred, but did issue a surveillance photo of two people it wants to identify (top).

Elora theft

On Jan. 4 at about 8pm, two people entered "a retailer in Elora," and left without paying for $2,000 worth of products, police stated in a Jan. 23 press release.

Police did not originally say where the theft occurred and it's unclear why it took nearly three weeks to issue the release.

Asked about the location, OPP spokesperson Josh Cunningham later confirmed, after speaking with "the victim," that the theft occurred at the Elora LCBO store.

Police issued a photo of the two suspects in this case (below).

Anyone with information about either incident can call police at 1-888-310-1122.

To remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a tip online at www.csgw.tips. Tip providers may be eligible for a reward from Crime Stoppers of up to $2,000.
