Public health identifies cases of COVID-19 at Centre Peel Public School

MAPLETON – Public health officials are asking students from Centre Peel Public School to self-isolate until Jan. 1 after three positive COVID-19 cases were found at the school.

"All students and staff in the 5/6, 6/7 and 7/8 classes must self-isolate until January 1 (end of day)," states a Dec. 27 press release from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH).

"Students and staff in these classes who attended school on December 16, 17 and 18 should get tested as soon as possible for COVID-19."

Officials say all other staff and students are at low risk and should watch carefully for symptoms until Jan. 1 and book a COVID-19 test if they experience any of the following symptoms:

• fever;
• new onset of cough;
• difficulty breathing;
• chills;
• fatigue, malaise, myalgia (muscle aches);
• headache;
• sore throat;
• runny, stuffy or congested nose;
• lost sense of smell or taste;
• pink eye;
• difficulty swallowing;
• digestive issues (nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain); and
• for young children and infants: sluggishness or lack of appetite.

While classes ended on Dec. 18 for the Christmas break, 16 schools in the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) region were reporting active cases of COVID-19 as of Dec. 28.
