ABERFOYLE – Puslinch councillors took a moment to remember former fire chief Robert Gordon.

Prior to the start of the March 4 council meeting, councillor Matthew Bulmer, chairing the meeting in Mayor James Seeley’s absence, said he wanted to “take this moment to acknowledge the passing” of Gordon.

A founding member of the Puslinch fire department, Gordon died on Feb. 29 in his 82nd year.

He was a member of the fire department for 45 years and retired as chief. He also served on township council and as chair of the planning advisory committee.

“He brought a level of decorum and fairness and firmness to the chair position that I think this organization still benefits from today,” Bulmer said. “He’s a great example of how to chair meetings.

“I wish all the best to his family as they deal with his passing.”

Councillor John Sepulis asked if there’s a policy for “remembering people like this individual who provided great service to the community.”

CAO Glenn Schwendinger said Seeley asked the municipality to make a donation as was requested in the obituary. The fire department would make its own donation.
