Freedom in Heaven

As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit. (Zech. 9:11)

The full price of my salvation, and everything that salvation supplies, has been paid in full by Christ’s death on Calvary. In Heaven, therefore, I am party to Heaven’s full legal and constitutional rights. I possess civil and political liberty within its regions, and I enjoy an autonomy that is free from all outside control. I am subject only to the righteous rule of Christ. No other power or influence is here.

Here I enjoy an individual independence that is unconstrained by anyone or anything. I am free to do whatever I want, because my desires are in perfect harmony with God’s desires. My position here is not regulated by anything outside my own makeup or being – I am fully able to choose for myself in all matters.

In Heaven, my activities are influenced only by my choice to do them. I do everything simply because I choose to do it. No other force or entity except God’s glorious presence affects the way I act. Everything I do is done willingly and instinctively because the Lord himself is my spirit and animation.

Nothing is lacking. No longer encumbered by that which is disagreeable or heavy, I am unbound, unconfined and unrestricted. I am subject only to the government of Heaven; I am regulated by its protocols alone.

In Heaven I have no requirements to perform outside the pleasure that I know by being in God’s personal and eternal presence. Everything I do is a delight to do, because his presence makes everything a delight. I never have to do anything I really do not want to do or merely because I am obligated to do it.

As a child I dreamed of being in Heaven, a place where I could fly anywhere at any time. I thought I would be like Superman: able to leap over tall buildings, break through walls and fly at supersonic speed anywhere in the universe. I would not need help from anyone, and I would never need tools or machines to help me do what I needed to do.

Well, in actual fact, my childhood fantasies were not far off, for in Heaven I am not limited or hindered in any way, and I am fully qualified to do everything I do. I function fully and freely in the manner that I have been designed to function. I am unconstrained. I am … well …  Superman!
