Road Watch program disbands
Road Watch, the civilian dangerous driving reporting tool, has been disbanded and the Wellington County OPP Inspector Scott Lawson has recommended all of the signage be removed.
Police board chair Lynda White updated county council on June 28 about the status of the program. In a letter to the board, Lawson said Road Watch, which launched in 1995 in Caledon, disbanded its board of directors.
“The result has been the removal of the Road Watch website and the ceasing of its operations; thus the OPP are no longer in a position to advocate for this reporting tool,” he stated.
Road Watch was formed to be a tool for civilians to report dangerous and aggressive driving in their community, allowing police to focus on these areas.
Lawson affirmed despite the disbandment of Road Watch, the OPP still have tools to combat dangerous driving.
“OPP in Wellington County have always consistently monitored, tracked and managed traffic complaints received by its citizens and municipalities alike,” he stated.
“Despite the Road Watch option now being defunct, OPP have many modern and strategic tools available to address traffic complaints.”
County council approved the recommendation to remove all Road Watch signage.
