Rotarians gearing up for chicken dinner

CLIFFORD - The Clifford Rotary Club is always looking to recruit new members.

The need for new members and volunteers has become more evident as fundraising opportunities arise.

During the last weekend in August, with vintage big rigs, modern rigs, classic pickup trucks, motor homes, motorcycles, organizers, drivers, and spectators converging on the Rotary Pavillion Park for the 11th annual Great Lakes Truck Club’s Antique and Classic Truck Show, local Rotarians were asked to set up a booth to feed all the people in need of food and refreshments.

Members and volunteers of the Clifford Firefighters Association offered to look after breakfast on Saturday and Sunday easing the responsibility of feeding hundreds for each meal.

Rotarians served French fries, sausage on a bun, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and cold drinks during the afternoon in the heat of the day. They maintained COVID-19 protocols as required to serve food at an outdoor event.

Rotarians express appreciation for all their seasoned volunteers and enjoy training young recruits.

Students still need to acquire 40 hours of volunteering on their way to secondary school graduation and helping Rotarians is one way to fill those hours.

Each fall the club usually hosts a pork and sauerkraut supper with sauerkraut members make themselves.

With the recent success of their first chicken barbecue drive-thru takeout dinner, club members have planned to host another barbecue half chicken dinner on Sept. 24 at the community hall.

The club notes the Sept. 24 event will replace the traditional Sauerkraut Supper this year.
