MINTO – While traditional parades here are cancelled, Minto Fire officials are reassuring local youths that Santa Claus will still be coming to town.

"As COVID-19 brings many changes this year, Minto Fire has been forced to adapt the presentation of our annual Christmas parades," states a Nov. 2 press release from the fire department, which annually organizes the events in Harriston, Clifford and Palmerston.

"This year, to follow social distancing guidelines and discourage crowds, we will be bringing Santa Claus to you."

In lieu of the regular parade, Minto Fire will escort Santa Claus with firetrucks through:

  • Harriston on Nov. 21, starting at 6pm;
  • Clifford, Nov. 28, starting at 6pm; and
  • Palmerston, Dec. 5, starting at 6pm.

Residents are encouraged to watch from their front lawns.

"We will be using the sirens to alert the children of Santa’s impending arrival, so make sure to listen to the sirens coming down your street," states the press release.

More information about routes will be announced closer to the events.
