Of Palmerston went home to be with his Lord and Saviour surrounded by the love of his family at the Palmerston and District Hospital on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of the late Shirley (Hogeterp) Scholten for 63 years. Dear father of Jay (Cindy) Scholten, Neil (Theresa) Scholten, Herman (Tricia) Scholten and Rhonda (Dave) McEachern. Loving grandfather of Ashley, Kayla, Cory (Rachel) McEachern, Isaac (Brooke) Scholten, Katrina (Turner) Hettrick, Amanda (Dave) Wilson, Stacy (Dan) Groenestege, Jennifer (Seth) Schiedel, Candace (Colin) Kelly. Dearest great grandfather to his 13 great grandchildren. Herb will be missed by his siblings and the Hogeterp family the late John (late Tinnie) Scholten, Hennie (Richard) VanDyke, Ralph (late Pat) Scholten, Be (Joyce) Scholten, late Richard (Dagmar) Scholten, Jack (Theresa) Scholten, Mary (Ralph) Mulder, the late Murray (late Hennie) Scholten and Albert (Shirley) Scholten, Tina (late Leo) Miedema, Rose (late Andy) Poortinga, Winnie (late Jack) DeBoer, Hazel (late Peter) Jansen, Lillian (late John) Veenstra, Peter (Marianna) Hogeterp, the late Johnny Hogeterp. Predeceased by his daughter Rhonda in infancy (1965), granddaughter Jessica Scholten, parents Jacob and Karen Scholten daughter-in-law Ann Scholten and father-in-law and mother-in-law Cornelis and Dorothy Hogeterp. Fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and friends. The family received friends at the Heritage Funeral Home, Drayton on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 from 11:00 to 11:45 followed by the funeral service at 12:00. Interment in Drayton Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Alzheimer’s society would be appreciated by the family.
