Students join Fergus Lions Club for annual roadside cleanup

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Once more the students of Maranatha Christian School joined the Fergus Lions Club for an annual roadside cleanup on Oct. 18. The day was sunny and warm as 30 students, along with their teacher volunteers and principal, teamed up with members of the Fergus Lions to clean up the southern approaches to the town. Several bags of trash were collected and than picked up by staff from Emcon – a highway management company. Following the event, the students were treated to snacks provided by Tim Hortons on Tower Street South. The Lions Club sent a big thanks to management and staff for their generosity and also to Elliott Bus Lines for providing transportation. Principal Richard Hoeksema was presented with a cheque for $800 by Lions president Margaret Murray as a “thank you” to the school for its assistance. Principal Hoeksema commented this was his 17th annual cleanup with the Lions – a partnership proving the test of time.
