Students shine at Special Olympics Track and Field Day

GUELPH – The Upper Grand and Wellington Catholic district school boards held their Special Olympics Track and Field Day at St. James Catholic Secondary School in Guelph on May 14.

Event co-chair Andrea Welsh-Devlin said “our slogan this year is make today awesome,” a reminder that every day is a fresh start and a chance to lift each other up.

Attendees included students, teachers, helpers and parents from both school boards as well as volunteers, Guelph Mayor Cam Guthrie, Special Olympics Ontario representatives and board officials.

UGDSB  director of education Peter Sovran offered a land acknowledgement at the start of the event and WCDSB director of education Mike Glazier thanked everyone who made the day possible, stating “We have 1,000 people here today to ... make today awesome.”
