Take out Daffodil Luncheon benefits cancer society

CLIFFORD - Jim and Joanne Weltz hosted their annual Daffodil Luncheon for the Cancer Society on April 29 at Gramma Jo’s Restaurant in Clifford.

Due to COVID-19 protocols, last year’s luncheon was cancelled. However, this year, Gramma Jo set out to have a cancer takeout luncheon available by pre-order. Beef vegetable and cream of potato soup was paired with egg salad, salmon salad, ham and cheese, or turkey salad sandwiches on either white or brown bread. White cake was offered for dessert. Close to 90 people picked up an order between.

The daffodil luncheon was always the first community gathering of the spring here, giving everyone the chance to meet and support the local chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society.

With current COVID-19 restrictions in place, dining inside the restaurant was not allowed, so having people stop by for pickup was the next best thing.

Last year, before the luncheon was cancelled, a quilt in tones of yellow and black was on display for a draw. This year, the quilt draw was held on April 30 with the winner being Audrey Morden of Harriston. The quilt was donated by the Creekbank Sewing Machine Shop at Mount Forest.

The  Weltz’s expressed appreciation to those who purchased a takeout meal or bought a ticket in the draw. All proceeds from the luncheon and quilt draw will be going to the Cancer Society.

Mother’s Day contest

Gramma Jo’s is inviting children to write a letter telling her why their mom should get a free breakfast for Mother’s Day. The contest closes May 7 so children should ask for help to get letters submitted.
