BRUCEDALE - A small group of homes between Carters Lane and Joliffe Avenue in Rockwood will be allowed to erect taller fences for better privacy.

Guelph-Eramosa township council amended its fencing bylaw on Feb. 4 to allow fences to be six feet, two inches tall on what are technically the front yards of the townhouse properties on the Joliffe side.

The normal maximum is three feet, six inches tall.

Clerk Meaghen Reid said these residents actually access their homes from the Carters Lane side.

They treat the Joliffe side as their back yards, since there is a public trail and a steep slope between their properties and Joliffe Avenue.

A survey of residents conducted last August received 13 responses, with 12 in favour of permission to erect taller fences.
