Tenth year for Erin Eco-Film Fest

ERIN – The Erin Eco-Film Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a series of five movies starting Jan. 30.

The showings are on Wednesday evenings at 7pm at the Erin Legion. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. More details are available at ErinEcoFilmFest.ca.

“We continue to do our best to dig up really interesting films to share with our local community,” said organizer Liz Armstrong.

“The focus for 2019 will be engaging folks who come to the film in local eco projects, such as the Erin PS garden, Seed Bank and Soil Health Coalition project. FoodShed will be back, and local organic popcorn and cider.”

The first film, sponsored by Credit Valley Conservation on Jan. 30, is Being the Change, featuring climate scientist Peter Kalmus. It is about cutting carbon footprints and building hope.

On Feb. 20 there is a screening of The Social Shift, showing Canadian examples of how a just and sustainable future can be created.

Sharkwater Extinction will be shown on March 20, exposing illegal fishing that threatens shark survival.

Modified: A Foodlover’s Journey into GMOs is the film on April 10, about the lack of labelling on genetically modified organisms in Canada.

The series will wrap up with Living the Change on April 24, with information on how to live sustainably.
