ROCKWOOD – Police say three people who fell into the water at a local conservation area survived because they were wearing lifejackets.

Emergency crews were called to the Rockwood Conservation Area on May 17 at about 6:30pm.

Wellington County OPP officials say three people were "in need of rescue after the canoe they were in capsized."

"It was reported that the three individuals, who were all wearing lifejackets, managed to climb onto a small island where they were stranded for approximately one hour," police stated in a May 21 press release.

Guelph firefighters used a department boat to rescue them.

"One person was transported to hospital as a precaution while the other two were treated at scene by paramedics," police stated.
