BRUCEDALE – On Sept. 5, Guelph/Eramosa council authorized a simple, new seal for official documents and received a request for improvements to a municipal drain on private property.

Official seal

Township bylaws and other official documents will be marked with Guelph/Eramosa’s official seal moving forward.

The seal is simple – an empty circle with the words “Corporation of the Township of Guelph/Eramosa” around the perimeter.

There are two versions of the seal, electronic and embossed.

Kurtz Municipal Drain

Clerk Amanda Knight presented a report regarding an application for improvements to the Kurtz municipal drain. The application was submitted by Amber and Mike Ninaber.

Branch A of the drain flows diagonally across the Ninaber’s property on 6th Line East near Ariss.

The proposed changes would improve channel capacity and conveyance and realign Branch A.

The portion of the drain that would be relocated is located solely on the Ninaber’s property.

“They’ve got some livestock on the property and a bit of floodplain so they want to improve it to reduce some of the floodplain area and make the entire parcel usable,” said public works director Harry Niemi.

The report included a recommendation for council to  appoint R.J. Burnside and Associates as the drainage engineer which will prepare a report with a summary of improvements. That report will come back to council.

Knight said because the application was submitted under Section 78 of the Drainage Act, the costs “will be borne solely by the Ninabers, so there’s no financial impacts” for the township.
