KENILWORTH – Wellington North is celebrating 30 years of Canadian Heritage Rivers with a fall river clean-up and tree planting.

In 1994, the Grand River and its major tributaries —  the Conestogo, Eramosa, Nith and Speed rivers — were designated Canadian Heritage Rivers, bringing the waterways extra attention.

“The designation recognizes the outstanding human heritage values and excellent recreational opportunities along the rivers,” Grand River Conservation Authority chair and Guelph/Eramosa Mayor Chris White wrote in a letter to Wellington North council.

Trees are expected to come from the county’s Green Legacy Program, said township community and economic development manager Mandy Jones.

Jones said exact details will be released later.
