ELORA – Centre Wellington will receive over $700,000 in its latest payment from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for hosting Elements Casino Grand River in Elora.

The OLG announced the township’s third quarter (Oct. 1 to Dec. 31) payment of $717,647 on Jan. 18.

That is down from its previous two quarterly payments, which were both over $800,000.

Prior to that, several payments were significantly lower due to past COVID-19 public health restrictions.

So far, during OLG’s fiscal year (April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023), Centre Wellington has received $2,333,131 for hosting the site.

Since the Elora slots facility opened in 2003, the township has received $38,433,465 from the OLG.

Payments to host communities “are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site,” OLG officials state.

Ontario finance minister Peter Bethlenfalvy said the payments "provide host gaming communities with the support they need to fund programs and critical infrastructure to improve the lives of residents and families.

“With these revenues, municipalities are able to build better communities with more opportunities to live and work.”

The OLG has committed to reinvest in the province 100 per cent of its profits.
