MAPLETON – Township council has approved the purchase of a $183,000 ice resurfacer a little earlier than originally planned to ensure it arrives in time for the 2026-27 ice rental season.

The current ice resurfacer at the PMD Arena is scheduled to be replaced next year, however the purchase of a new Olympia Millennium E ice resurfacer takes a year in delivery time.

To ensure delivery in time for the 2026-27 season, a report was presented to Mapleton council on June 10 seeking pre-budget approval for staff.

The ice resurfacer replacement was previously endorsed as part of the township’s 10-year capital forecast, at a cost of $170,000.

According to the report, based on quotations received from Elmira-based Resurfice Corp. and on input from the township’s electrical contractor, the total cost of supply, delivery and electrical upgrades was estimated at approximately $183,000.

The Olympia alone costs just over $174,000.

Project costs have risen since the initial estimate due to material costs and tariffs on steel and aluminum, the report states.

Council approved the pre-budget allocation of $183,000 in funding in the township’s 2026 capital program.
