GUELPH – From Feb. 1 to 7 Guelph’s city hall will be illuminated with purple lights to recognize Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

Eating disorders impact people in different ways, and the journey of recovery can take myriad different forms.

Every year, people with lived experience come together to share their stories during the Waterloo-Wellington Eating Disorders Coalition’s Faces of Recovery panel.

This year the event, in its 20th year, takes place virtually on Feb. 8 from 7 to 8:30pm.

The event’s purpose is to “create hope for recovery, to let others know that they are not alone, and to see themselves in someone on the panel,” coalition spokesperson Samantha Durfy told the Advertiser.

“Our most recent efforts have been to create space for marginalized folks who are experiencing an eating disorder and not just have the typical anorexia presentation that many people associate with an eating disorder.”

To register for Faces of Recovery, search eventbrite.ca for Faces of Recovery 2024. All are welcome to attend, but registration is limited.

“Each year is different, so even if someone has attended in the past, it’s a worthy experience to come back again and again.  We have many audience members who come annually,” Durfy said.
