KENILWORTH – The Township of Wellington North has taken the lead on a joint application seeking $40,000 in tourism grant funding.

Last fall, cultural roundtables in Wellington North, Minto and Hanover met and figured out what they could collaborate on for federal Tourism Growth Program funding.

The joint application covers four programs, according to a March 11 report to council from economic development officer Dale Small, including:

mobile app Driftscape to help share municipal sites and stories;

a joint roundtable discussion about tourism, arts and diversity training on May 31;

creation of an Ontario culture guide showcasing stories; and

implementing a culture bus touring visitors to events during fall culture days.

If funding is granted, it will cover 66 per cent of the overall estimated cost of $60,000.

The report notes several letters supporting the application were received from area municipalities and parliamentarians.

Regardless of whether funding is granted, the three cultural roundtables intend to proceed with the roundtable discussion and culture guide, according to the report.
