WELLINGTON NORTH – Township officials here estimate the total cost of 2021 capital projects will be $15.2 million.

A report received by Wellington North council on June 28 notes actual expenses as of June 15 total $1.27 million.

Projects for this year include road resurfacing and construction, water and sewer projects, fire service upgrades, and various parks and recreation projects.

“When I look back on my time here, things have certainly changed a lot in terms of the amount of things that we’re trying to do and that we’re able to do,” said Mayor Andy Lennox.

He added the amount of activity happening in the community with regard to development has been unprecedented.

“It’s clear when we see this kind of growth coming to the community that the township may require some more in-house technical, administrative or project management resources to meet the capital and development needs for the future,” Lennox said.

“In the coming months, we probably will hear from senior staff with some plans for how we go forward to continue to be able to maintain the infrastructure we have, build the new infrastructure we need, and manage the growth for the future.”

Councillor Steve McCabe said he is pleased with the progress the township has made on its 2021 capital projects.

“What we can do with the money we have is extraordinary,” he said.

“All of these projects that are going forward are hopefully going to be even better for the township as we get there.”
