WEST, Mardi Louise

Born May 18, 1949, as Mardi Louise Erickson she was raised in Toronto by loving parents. Mardi moved to Vancouver in her late teens where she had extensive family. She was married and had two sons, David and Ryan. 10 years later she moved back to Ontario to the Kitchener/Waterloo area with her sons where her parents resided. At that time, Mardi went back to school and successfully completed her Registered Nursing Degree. In the years following, she met Tom, and his two children Paula and James. Tom and Mardi fell in love and then married, and over the next 36 years their family grew as their children married and had children. David and Stephanie (Aubrey and Hudson), Ryan and Michele (Alexandra), Paula and Sam (Cole and Meghan), and James and Andrea (Cody, Emily, and Chloe). Mardi loved her growing family immensely; her grandbabies were her pride and joy. Tom and Mardi had a beautiful life that included lots of travelling. She and Tom were able to do so extensively over their years together, which brought them both great joy and created beautiful memories. Mardi also enjoyed family gatherings which she eagerly attended every chance she had. Sadly, Mardi was not blessed with the best health over her lifetime. She developed diabetes in 2000, heart problems followed, as well as a degenerative lung disease in 2019. She persisted against all of this and was able to take a final trip to Vancouver to visit family in the fall of 2023. Things became increasingly more difficult, and Mardi’s life ended peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on August 14, 2024, in the Fergus Hospital.
